September’s special edition burger is the Kiss Me Quick – an old fashioned British battered cod or haddock in a bun, wedge of lemon, homemade chip style chips with a pot of hot mushy peas and tartar sauce on the side.
The inspiration for this particular burger came from a combination of things but that is, as always, based on Annie’s roots in Rhode Island which a very nautical town.
Despite growing up in Rhode Island, New England and never having eaten them as a child Annie has always loved everything about the traditional English scene and what could be more traditional than the national staple of fish and chips?
Since moving to the UK Annie has tried fish and chips from every part of the United Kingdom – from every English coastal town to the Scotland, Wales and even Ireland and she honestly feels that the Cods Scallops based here in Nottingham is the best Fish and Chips you can buy so she knew she wanted to bring a bit of that heritage to September’s burger.
However, it wouldn’t be Annie’s unless it had a cheeky and fun twist to it. The Kiss Me Quick element came from Annie’s love of vintage postcards- especially the tongue in cheek seaside postcards from the 60s and 70s rendolent of the carry on films and a more carefree, old fashioned sense of naughtiness. She remembers one café called Sonia’s off of Alfreton Road which was plastered with these postcards and that was what inspired the fun edge you’ll see on the Kiss Me Quick burger.
